RDA Effect on Francis
by Agatha Nangila-Karani
Our son Francis, aged 13, joined KCCL (Kenya Community Centre for Learning) in September 2004. This was his third school since he started school at age six. By the time he joined KCCL, he had lost interest in writing and his concentration was minimal. This was as a result of slow motor development and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).
Francis A physiotherapist had recommended bicycle riding as a way of helping his motor development. To us this was something we thought was impossible. At age ten, he still needed a four-wheeled bicycle, because he could hardly balance. Mr Keya, the Deputy Principal at KCCL, mentioned to us about RDA. We did not hesitate and gave it a try.
One morning, after having gone through several of the RDA lessons, we watched Francis in disbelief. He leaped onto his brother’s bicycle with confidence. His brothers, not sure, ran after him, thinking he couldn’t balance. They thought he would fall off and so wanted to stop the bike.
To us as a family, it was yet another milestone overcome. Francis has renewed his interest in writing. His ability to complete tasks has greatly improved.
We thank God for RDA!
